Gardening Club: Dec ‘21

Festive Wreaths

On the 18th December, our Gardening Club spent the morning creating own festive wreaths. We began by foraging various greenery from across the Community Garden. This included ivy, holly, conifer, teasels, eucalyptus, spindles and more. The smell was delicious!

Next, using some willow left over from our last garden club, the group created base shapes which would be used to wire on the greenery. Some chose a traditional circular shape while others created willow stars.

There was plenty of foliage to chose from but we also had a pile of pine cones, some roasted oranges, cinnamon sticks and ribbon that members of the group had shared which really added to the look (and smells) of the wreaths.

By wiring layer upon layer of greenery onto the willow shapes, we built up our wreaths. The amount of different colours and textures that could be added was surprising and no two wreaths were the same; a few opted for full rustic type of wreath, where as others decided to leave some willow visible which created a lovely, contemporary look.

It was a good turn out, again with a few new faces. The group was spread out nicely across some tables with plenty of work space. We were all pleased with how easy it was to create really effective wreaths for Christmas using only basic equipment and what we had foraged.

Our gardening club sessions are held from 9am-12pm on the third Saturday of every month. Free to attend and all ages and abilities welcome.
